Description
Matthew "Matt" Martin Carpenter:
(born November 26, 1985) is a second baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Cardinals drafted Carpenter in the 13th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft out of Texas Christian University. St. Louis called him up to the majors for the first time on June 3, 2011, and he made his MLB debut the following night at Busch Stadium.
In 2013, Carpenter played his first full season in the Major Leagues, moved to second base from third base in spring training, and became the Cardinals' leadoff hitter midway through April. He excelled in his new role, leading the Major Leagues in hits (193), doubles (53), and runs (123) through September 20 while batting .323.On September 21, he broke Stan Musial's six decade-old franchise record for doubles (Musial's 53 came in 1953) by a left-handed batter with this 54th double.
In the deciding game of the National League Championship game on October 18th Matt Carpenter’s 11-pitch at-bat started a nightmare third inning for Clayton Kershaw and Dodgers. Carpenter broke through to hit a double and Kershaw was soon to be finished.
