Adam Parrish Wainwright:


(born August 30, 1981) is an American professional baseball starting pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. He was drafted 29th overall by the Atlanta Braves in the 2000 amateur draft. He made his major league debut for the St. Louis Cardinals on September 11, 2005 against the New York Mets.


2010 was an excellent year for Wainwright. He finished with 20 wins and a 2.42 era. He was the runner-up for the 2010 NL Cy Young Award, finishing second in voting behind unanimous winner Halladay.


He struck out eight batters in the September 7, 2013 game at home against the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates for 1,103 strikeouts in his career, passing Dizzy Dean (1,095) for second place among Cardinals' pitchers. Only Bob Gibson (3,117 in 528 games) has more strikeouts. Wainwright ended the year tied for most wins (19) in the National League.


 


In the postseason Wainwright won both the first and fifth and deciding game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The fifth game he pitched a one run complete game. He is a Mr. October Pitcher having lowered the all time post season era to 2.27 through the National League Championship Series.
