Description
Carlos Iván Beltrán:
(born April 24, 1977) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has also played in MLB for the Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants.
Beltrán was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1999. He has been named to eight MLB All-Star Games, and has won three Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards. Beltrán is a member of the 30–30 club, as he has hit 30 home runs and stolen 30 bases in the same season.
Beltrán is among the best all-time statistical hitters in Major League Baseball postseason games, which has earned him nicknames such as "the new Mr.October", "Mr.October, Jr.", "Señor Octubre" and "the real Mr.October" from the media.
Carlos Beltran continued to shine in the postseason, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Cardinals slaughtered the Dodgers 9-0 in Game 6 of the NLCS on Friday, October 18th to earn a World Series berth. This is Carlos' first ever trip to the World Series.
Seven times before Friday, he had sniffed the World Series, playing a game with a chance to win the pennant. Every time, his team had lost. Once, Beltran struck out looking to end the whole season while playing for the Mets.
Beltran, right, with Shane Robinson after a Game 4 victory, had a .327 career postseason average going into Friday’s game.
On Friday night, Wainwright reflected on Beltran’s journey:
“Carlos has been so great in the postseason, it’s almost crazy he hasn’t got to the World Series,” Wainwright said. “He’s been one game away, I think, three or four times. To be able to say, in St. Louis, we got him that chance to go on and try to get a World Series ring, it’s pretty special.”
