Sponsor a Class to Participate In Children's Day Cultural Visit (w/ Transportation)

Item Number: 135
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
As an opportunity for JCCCNC to preserve and cultivate interest in Japanese American culture and traditions, we offer school visits to San Francisco Elementary Schools as part of our celebration of Children’s Day (Kodomo no hi) and to other Bay Area schools during the week leading up the Children's Day Festival on May 5th.
Your sponsorship will allow one class to participate in the Children's Day Cultural Visit and also covers the cost of transportation via school bus rental or public transit.
In 2011, close to 60 schools participated in the cultural visit in over a five day period. During their visit the children were able to participate in Japanese language games, create their own washi-ninjyo dolls, make manju and take part in an educational tour of the Children's Day exhibit.
The JCCCNC can customize a visit to share with students how to make crafts, learn the basics of taiko, odori and sushi and manju making, organize lectures about the Japanese American Internment and coordinate visits to other community organizations.* Students will learn about a broad range of topics and get a taste of the community and its history.
Special Instructions
This sponsorship covers all staff, facility and material costs as well as transportation for one class visit.
