Today the Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit, offering events and programs designed to educate, inspire, entertain and foster a deeper understanding of our culinary culture.  In addition to maintaining the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs, the Foundation hosts conferences, tastings, lectures, and food-related art exhibits in New York City and around the country. JBF is recognized as the center of America’s culinary community.

The James Beard Foundation Awards, presented every spring at Lincoln Center, are the highest honor for culinary professionals in North America. Nominees and winners are feted at a weekend of events in New York City that has become the social and gastronomic event of the year. Past winners include Wolfgang Puck, Lifetime Achievement Award; Boulevard San Francisco, Outstanding Restaurant; and The Fry Bread House in Phoenix, America’s Classic Winner.

Enjoy a private dinner party for up to 12 people in the exclusive, elegant Peter Kump boardroom located on the top floor of the famous James Beard House.

Both established and emerging guest chefs from around the world are invited to the James Beard House to prepare special dinners throughout the year. Guest chefs and dinner themes earlier this year have included:

Francis Ford Coppola’s Favorites: outstanding Italian recipes and wines of the Coppola family. Guests were joined by Tim Bodell, chef of RUSTIC, the on-site restaurant at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, and winemaker Corey Beck, who presented a selection of wines from this legendary range.

Upstairs/Downstairs at Downton Abbey: celebrating the show’s new season. A group of chefs from top NYC restaurants, including James Beard Award-Winner Alexandra Guarnaschelli from Butter and the Darby, delighted guests with a meal of both upstairs and downstairs cuisine inspired by the show.

Chinese New Year - East Meets West: a feast of authentic and fusion cuisines. Food lovers had been in hot pursuit of the exceptionally talented Peter Chang for years before he visited the Beard House for an unforgettable Chinese New Year celebration. Peter Chang, known for his restaurants in Virginia, was joined by Scott Drewno of The Source by Wolfgang Puck, Washington, D.C.

Your evening begins with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the house led by a James Beard Foundation representative, where you will see James Beard’s original kitchen as well as other historic areas of his former home.   At Julia Child’s suggestion, former James Beard student Peter Kump (founder of the Institute of Culinary Education) and friends raised the funds to make a down-payment on Beard’s New York brownstone in Greenwich Village in 1987 and preserved it as a gathering place where food enthusiasts can appreciate the talents of established and emerging chefs.

Dinner includes mineral water, wine, coffee/tea service and gratuity. Events subject to availability. The Boardroom can accommodate no more than 12 guests.

Marriott Marquis New York

Enjoy a 2-night stay including daily breakfast in a total of six standard guest rooms.  Located in the heart of Times Square and the Broadway theater district, this Manhattan hotel is near attractions like Fifth Avenue shopping, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, NBC Studios and Central Park, as well as close to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the UN and Madison Square Garden.  Subject to availability and cannot be used during hotel special events.

Blackout dates:  November 21st through January 3rd.
