Description

3 Bottles of Portola Valley Ranch wine: Cabernet Vintages 2007, 2008 and 2009

These are three bottles of a very rare local wine, from the Portola Valley Ranch.  Not sold in stores.

They are all 90% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot.  All the grapes are grown on a sunny 1.5 acre hillside vineyard at the Portola Valley Ranch, and all viticulture and vinaculture is performed by the local wine committee, under the supervision of the Fogarty brothers, who also run the Fogarty Vineyards.

Past vintages have won bronze, silver, and gold awards at the San Mateo County Fair wine competitions.

All three wines have been well aged in a cellar and are ready for consumption now.  The are among the best vintages this vineyard has ever produced.

They have an estimated retail value of $150 to $200  combined, but they are not available for sale from any outlet.

Here are the latest tasting notes from the wine committee:

1996 - Black currant and chocolate in the nose.  Jammy and fruity, moderate tannins, cherries, chocolates.  Drinkability - Well balanced and very drinkable now.

2001 - Has vanilla, cherries, and some oak in the nose.  A big wine with bing cherry flavors and a long finish.  Holding up well.  Drinkability - Ready to drink now but has the structure to go longer.

2004 - This is a big wine with concentrated flavors of cherry and vanilla.  It has good balance and a smooth finish.  This may be the best we have made in the last decade.  Drinkability - Decanting advised.  A spectacular wine.
