'How do you explain abstract painting? Nineteenth-century English critic Walter Pater said that all art aspires to be music. More recently, in a New York Times interview, Spanish painter Antoni Tapies said, "One should compare modern art to music." We can also compare abstract art to modern dance. The movements of the dancers—like a pencil or brush—break the stage space into shapes. Abstract painting is about visual noise and energy, and about silence and solitude, all of which are definitely related to music.

Two things inspire my paintings—landscape and architecture. Well, maybe three things. Who can escape the drive and speed and visual cacophony of New York? Yet, New Yorkers need those precious moments of quiet and solitude. So my paintings are sometimes like a honking traffic jam, other times like a leaf falling in a Japanese garden. They are the pages of a visual autobiography.'
