Description
Floyd D. Tunson, born in 1947, is a Denver native son. He earned an M.A. Degree from Adams State College and taught art in Colorado Springs. During his forty years of making art, Tunson has explored numerous themes in printmaking, mixed media, painting, and sculpture. His imagery ranges from representational to non-objective. His subjects draw from his experience as a Black American male, his appreciation for art history, his love of painterly expressionism, his whimsical wit and his appreciation for irony and contradiction.

"Untitled 96"
This image relfects a piece of history that lingers. Young black males who are targeted unfairly often become not only the endangered, but the endangering. A young black male in a hoodie walks down the street and is assumed to be guilty of something. In young men who routinely experience this profiling and live to tell about it, the resentment grows until it finally explodes. It's tragic - for everyone.
