Description

JM Strasia is a Littleton artist working in multiple mediums ranging from Braille texts to paneled oil paintings.  Her work falls somewhere between the Bay Area Figurative Movement and the Renaissance. Abstractly overlapping color and texture expose the hidden story behind her scenes, and thus her work speaks to the unknown in all of us. She plans to complete her BFA in May of 2015, before expanding her studio to create and to teach art full time.

Vicissitude -- an unwelcome shift in fortune or circumstance -- speaks of fractured existences.  Scars reveal the aftermath of a once hidden battlefield; yet beneath the explosive marks there is healing, too.  The visible remnants of destruction -- caused by disease or war -- also expose potential for change, and thus reveal a transformative power that must often erupt before it's revealed.   How do we reconstruct ourselves from what's left? Can past hurts be purged from the final piece?  Will it feel beautiful?
