Originally from New Jersey, Leigh Gusterson has been living and painting plein air in Taos, New Mexico for 25 years. She resides in an old adobe she fixed up in an old Hispanic village 25 miles southeast of Taos proper and LOVES it there! She shows her work in Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
Special Instructions
When I opened up the box with the mask, I found it to be alarmingly flat and without features. So the first thing I wanted to do was to give it a prominent nose, eyes and lips and to make it beautiful. What came to me was to create the full features of a black woman. I hoped to have her portray her beauty with grace, dignity and confidence. Thanks for this opportunity!
