Description

"I am 12 years old," says Sarah Denison.  "I am excited to start eighth grade at Shadow Ridge Middle School in Thornton, Colorado.  I am looking forward to my second year as the Art Teacher's Assistant, and to my honors math and science classes.  I also enjoy band, choir, swimming, and anything 'crafty.'  I was honored and privileged to be a part of this project and made this mask because I have had two grandparents pass away from cancer and both utilized hospice services.  Our family knows first hand how valuable hospice can be."

Special Instructions

Recently I learned how to make flowers out of aluminum cans in art class.  I really enjoyed the process and creating this form of art.  When I thought about what I wanted to do for the Mask Project, I knew I wanted the mask to have a 3-dimensional aspect to it, so I decided to include aluminum flowers in the piece.  This inspired me to paint the landscape scene because I thought it fit nicely with the recycled aluminum flowers concept.
