Jade Phillips is a student studying Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. She is interested in the female figure and how it is portrayed. About the mask: The mask is an interpretation/partial representation of an image created by the Art Nouveau illustrator, Alphonse Mucha. Mucha incorporates much female imagery, and the idealistic portraits of women were similar in form to that of the raw, plaster mask. In turn, the student used the resemblance to her advantage and painted flowers curling around the womans face. This is symbolic of the students growth as woman, and it also illustrates her blossoming zeal for the art of painting.
