Sylvie Abecassis is currently a professional illustrator and graphic artist. She also creates mixed media jewelry sold at select boutiques, shows and in her Etsy shop, Deviled Eggs. Her small ceramic diorama's show off small fantasy worlds such as luscious pomegranates, lilac turnips, black hearts and red strawberries that contain even tinier figures inside them. She has won awards in juried and local art exhibits and work is found in numerous private collections. Frida Kahlo is a huge inspiration to me and so many other women. Since I have participated in the Denver annual Beads, Brows and Braids show for many years, I decided that I wanted to create her portrait with a mask. My Frida Kahlo mask is embellished with my handmade fired ceramic flowers that have been black washed and hand painted. The addition of the eyes, nose and mouth are sculpted out of Apoxie Clay.
