A Beginner Runner 5K Program

If you're able to walk for 30 minutes, ACT Running can help you Become a Runner, in ability and in spirit. LASA alum parents, students and younger kids alike all have successfully launched into running with the support and assistance of ACT Running's "B.A.R." class, run by running coach extraordinaire Ashley Thompson. 

By gradually increasing your distance and building walk breaks into the program, you'll discover that not only is a 5k (3.1 mile) distance within your reach, it's enjoyable, gratifying and quite possibly addictive. By committing to meet three times a week and logging your workouts on a online training site, you'll be a part of a supportive team dedicated to your success. This group is about completing, not competing, making running accessible to everyone whether you're 10 or 70. 

There will not be a specific time-goal. By the time you graduate, you will be able to call yourself a runner.

The winner of the auction is entitled to one registration to one B.A.R. session, either Jan. 6 – Feb. 28, 2014 OR March 3 – April 25, 2014. 

B.A.R. meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 - 7 AM at Ramsey Park, 4301 Rosedale Ave, Austin, TX 78756.

More about Ashley: A recreational runner turned RRCA-certified running coach, Ashley Thompson's approach makes the sport accessible to a wide range of people. Her passion is fostering the love of running and keeping clients injury-free. Ashley's coaching experience includes working with DetermiNation (the American Cancer Society's endurance team), Austin Runners Meetup, and Team Footworks (South Miami, FL). Ashley is the former Recreation Manager at the Ocean Reef Club and was on the Programming Staff at Camp Friendship, vocations that balanced creativity and fitness. As a mother of two, she understands the challenges of fitting exercise into life and appreciates the "attitude adjustment" a good run brings. Most importantly, Ashley is convinced that everyone is an athlete.
