When HHBR offers help to a hound that test positive for Heartworms we treat this hound for those Heartworms.  This treatment is not only very hard on the hound but what is medically needed to save that hounds life & give it the best future we can offer him/her.  This treatment is also very costly for rescue. 

At HHBR's current intake rate we are intaking approx 2-3 hounds a week with an adoption rate of 1 hound per week.  So as you can imagine when one great hound finds his/her forever home the funds donated from their adoption fees only slightly cover the next hounds.  HHBR prides itself on offering a healthy completely vetted hound for each adoption! So when the hound comes into our care with more extensive medical needs such as Heartworms, Tumors, Bad Teeth, Severe infestations of intestinal parasites, their adoption fees rarely cover the medical costs it costs HHBR to make them the healthy happy hound they get to go home as.  These factors also effect how long the hound is in HHBR's Foster Home Program & ultimately effect how many hounds we can help due to financial & time constraints.
