The New Hampshire Film Festival takes place each fall the weekend after Columbus Day in Portsmouth, NH. Our mission is to support the art of filmmaking and to present the best in recent independent cinema from the region, nation and world.

NHFF unites professional filmmakers and screenwriters with industry experts, students, educators, and film lovers for an inspiring, four-day celebration of independent film through panels, workshops, screenings, and networking events.

Founded in 2001, NHFF began as a small, grassroots organization to support local, regional, and student filmmakers. It now holds a place as a viable and recognized festival that showcases the brightest talent on the international film festival scene.

NHFF presents the best of independent film on four state-of-the-art screening venues ranging in size from 65 to 900-seat theaters. The festival also emphasize creative collaboration, education, and networking through a half dozen panel discussions and workshops, as well as after-parties where filmmakers can mingle with special guests.

Over four full days, NHFF can attract more than 9,000 attendees. In 2010, NHFF received more than 700 films and 200 screenplays for consideration. We screened more than 80 domestic and international films. With chances for education, discussion and socializing, our film festival offers plentiful networking opportunities among industry insiders.

In 2009 NHFF received national press coverage from such periodicals as Moviemaker Magazine, which called Portsmouth “the film center of New England.” The NHFF experience has grown each year, culminating with significant validation from 2010 lead sponsor Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

NHFF holds a special place in many filmmakers’ hearts. Dan Ferrigan, the DP of award-winning film “The Way We Get By,” told MovieMaker Magazine in its Winter 2010 issue of his immensely positive experience at NHFF.

“NHFF programmers packed rustic screening locations from morning till night with the most compelling and honored films I’ve seen all year. Not since our premiere at SXSW had I seen such top notch docs and fictional gems. I soon realized this wasn’t just a festival on its way- it had already arrived. The excitement from NH is still with me…and I don’t want it to leave.”
