Description
Relive Cal's glorious history today! Pappy's Boys - The Rose Bowl Years is a refreshing look at a remarkable era of California athletic history filled with positive, impressive and moving stories. This 205-page hardcover book is the autobiographic story of the lives of fifty-nine of the participants on the 1948, 1949 and 1950 University of California Rose Bowl Teams.
Edited by Sports Illustrated's Ron Fimrite, the book includes introductory presentations by Clark Kerr, Glenn Seaborg, Paul Christopulos, Eggs Manske and the Waldorf daughters, Mary Louise Osborne and Carolyn Pickering. Thirty-four pages of photos feature the teams, coaches, All-Americans, and action of Cal's back-to-back-to-back champions.
Also included is an appendix listing the statistical records of the three teams, inductees into the various Halls of Fame, the All-Americans, as well as a complete roster of all the players from the 1947-56 seasons.
Pappy, the Gentle Bear is the story of a coach who won championships at Kansas State, Northwestern and Cal, then moved on to the San Francisco 49ers as personnel guru and became the father of ongoing cooperation between university communities and the exploding NFL. Now, exactly a half-century after two of his own teams, Northwestern and Cal, played in one of the greatest Rose Bowls ever contested, the story of Pappy and his boys is finally told.
And to round off this set, the Songs of California book, including lyrics, sheet music, and unforgettable stories behind twenty (20) of Cal's most classic songs!
