This selection is one of a set of studies by artist Hans-Gerd Mehrtens, part of the Chicago and San Francisco art scene from 1984 until his death in 1994.

About the Print

Shared heavy shading, and a striking combination of warm and cool tones, makes this print an intriguing study of energy in the relaxed attitudes of the figures. As if by design, linear continuity leads the eye from one subject to the other in a fluid fashion, inciting interest. The eye is led in by the central figure, more vivid in color, but clearly deferential to the figure in the hat on the right. Balance in the piece is achieved as the figure on the left is poised to leave the scene.

The artist’s signature and date of the study authenticate the piece. Print is matted, suitable for framing. Size is 21.5” x 21.5”
