Ever wonder how commodities move along our national waterway system and how our lock and dam systems operate?
Item offered is a trip for two on a 4,000 horsepower towboat with a 15-barge tow through the McAlpine Locks in Louisville. This is a unique and educational opportunity. There will be a full tour of the towboat, including the pilot house and all decks (if interested, walk out onto the barges), witness all aspects of the locking procedure through the locks and enjoy lunch served on the towboat provided by the cook assigned to the towboat.
Crounse Corporation is a privately owned barge transportation company headquartered in Paducah, Ky. with an operations office in Maysville. They have been in business since 1948 and have approximately 350 employees. Crounse, who own 35 towboats and 1,100 barges, moves approximately 35 million tons of cargo (85% coal and 15% construction aggregate and scrubber limestone) each year along the Ohio River and its tributaries.

The trip will begin and end at the LG&E Center, at 220 West Main Street, Louisville, Ky. Transportation to and from the towboat boarding location will be provided. Please allow approximately six hours for this event. Three weeks advance notice needed for scheduling the ride.

The participants must be at least 12 years of age or older. If one participant is under the age of 18 the other must be an adult.
A certificate for two will be mailed to the winner. Please allow two to three weeks for delivery.
