2003 Official White House Historical Society Ornament

Item Number: 313
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Delightful-- both in design and story! Honoring the Ulysses Grant administration (1869-1877) and the First Lady's generosity to orphanages and other charities. The central figure is a young boy on a rocking horse, inspired by an authentic Victorian illustration. The toys on the wreath surrounding the figure are of the type that were available in fancy goods stores in that day. The steam locomotive below the wreath is a symbol of that age of industrialization.
The central character is hand painted, cold-cast porcelain. The wreath is 24 kt gold finished brass with enameled colors. Ornament comes in its original box with all paperwork.
The ornaments are created each year by the White House Historical Society with proceeds "used for the acquisition and preservation of historical furnishings and artworks that are part of the permanent White House collection."
Details: New in original packaging. Ornament is 3 1/4" wide x 3 3/4" high.
