From the potters of Staffordshire, England in the late 1800's. This large ironstone transferware pitcher/ewer displays a pastoral scene of cozy cottages, wisps of smoke rising from their chimneys, with a small rowboat on a pond in the foreground. Ivy and ferns encircle the main image, which is repeated on both sides of the pitcher. Ivy also adorns the rim, inside and out, and the handle. Bottom bears the Whittaker & Co. makers mark: W. & Co. Alton Hanley. There is some staining and very minor crazing on the belly of the pitcher. No chips or cracks. In good condition.
Details: Pitcher measures 11" tall at highest point, approx. 10" wide at widest point, main portion of pitcher is approx. 7 1/4" in diameter.
