Description

This is an (18x36) hand-painted woodblock print.

The art career of Susan Mitchinson in Namibia spans over a quarter century. Born and
raised in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, Susan was originally a student of literature who
made an abrupt career change “when I realized you only have one life to do what you
want.” At the University of Bordeaux, France, her influences were the Old Masters and
particularly El Greco. Susan believes that her life in Africa has made her work positive,
solid, and spiritual. Her works take on many forms while she is best known for her black
and white wood block prints. Susan feels that in the sculpting of wood print blocks she
becomes part of the artwork itself.

Susan’s works have exhibited in many venues, including multiple exhibitions at the National
Gallery of Art in Namibia. She is a long-time dear friend of Dr. Laurie Marker and has donated this
print to support cheetah conservation.
