Two Months of Class and the Uniform too!

What is Tae Kwon Do?

Literally translated, the Korean word tae, means to kick or squash with the foot, kwon implies a hand or fist to block, punch, strike or destroy. Do denotes an art or a way…..thus Tae Kwon Do means the art of kicking, blocking and punching.

It is a non-violent system practiced in over 160 countries that consists of much more than just fighting techniques. In Tae Kwon Do we learn to respect life through mental, physical and philosophical studies. Tae Kwon Do is now recongnized as a full medal sport in the Olympics.

Aspects of Tae Kwon Do

Mental: Self Confidence, Strong Character, Good Judgement, Self Control and Sound Mind.

Physical: Good Coordination, Strong Body, Self Defense, Strong Muscle Tone, Strength, Flexibility and an Agile Body.

Philosophical: Respect for each other, helping each other, honesty and standing by the weak.

Xtreme Tae Kwon Do is excited about their two new programs:

  • contact kickboxing and

  • mixed martial arts, or MMA as it is commonly known.

Kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) provide a fast-paced, cardio-intensive, total body workout that tones flab and strengthens muscles. You’ll be punching, kicking and jabbing your way to better health, and you will learn how to defend yourself. The moves you learn are primarily self-defense tactics.

Kickboxing and MMA combine boxing with martial arts. Instructors generally employ a series of punches, jabs, upper-cuts and hooks mixed with round-house, push and sidekick drills. MMA also incorporates grappling drills (ground fighting).

Performing these moves with intensity and accuracy, the entire body becomes strengthened. Nutrition and fitness web sites report that you can burn 590 to 863 calories in a one-hour class. Kickboxing and MMA are a good way to tone your body and lead a more healthful lifestyle.

Stress reduction is also a major benefit of kickboxing and MMA. The martial arts used in these classes require concentration and focus, which relieves frustration and releases anger. Kickboxing and MMA also enhance coordination and balance. Since your body is in motion for about an hour, your heart benefits from a strong cardiovascular workout. Kickboxing and MMA workouts are an energizing way to effectively reach and maintain your weight goals.
