Description

Duchess was an original member of the Phoenix Zoo family, coming to the US from Borneo just before the zoo opened in 1962. Duchess loved to paint and enjoyed helping her keepers clean the orangutan bedrooms. She was a favorite of Phoenix residents for 50 years. Duchess passed away at the estimated age of 52 in June, 2012.

Her legacy lives on with this item.  This 11x14 metal plaque is considered "genetic art" and shows her DNA with a beautiful image of "Duchess" herself.

Also included are 5 postcards with the same image and a description of Duchess and her life on the back.
