The current work is a reflection on the sensuality of skin, memory and desire. This piece is part of a series, and is titled 'Khayali Pulao'.(Loosely translated as ‘Imaginary Feast’)
Raania Azam Khan Durrani is a visual artist and art administrator based in Karachi. She studied visual art and writing at Bennington College in Vermont, USA. In 2004 she attended an artist residency in Nepal, which led her to co-found the Commune Artist Colony, in Karachi; a space she directed until 2008. She attended the Goshogowara wood-fire festival in Aomori, Japan in 2008, followed by a solo show at Canvas gallery, Karachi. In 2010, she participated at the Mungyeong tea-bowl festival, in South Korea. Raania is now focused on developing public art and cultivating a new audience for the arts in Pakistan. One of her significant projects, at PeaceNiche where she serves as the Visual Art Coordinator, is the ‘Jumma Hafta Art Bazaar’. Raania has taught ceramics at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture, for seven years, and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her recent work Includes 'Mystery Nivala Prelude' at the Asna Clay Trienalle and the performance 'Mystery Nivala' at the Amin Gulgee Gallery, in 2013.
