I am a lifelong secret artist but it wasn't until I retired from my 40 year career in corporate America that I gave full flight to my inner artist.  Over the 40 years I have casually studied pottery, drawing, and painting. And finally, after all this time, I have settled on paint as my medium. 

I am inspired by the natural world and its inhabitants - the seashore, the city, the mountains, shops in a village, people in their own private worlds in cafes. I love the way trees carve out shapes in the landscape and buildings blend and clash with their surroundings. 

And so, in my 60s, I hereby declare myself an emerging artist. My work has come a long way in the past two years and I have a very long way to go. Some days I wish I had taken the other path, going to Art School and having the formal training that might help me face artistic challenges. But here I am, having taken the very long road, learning  every day. There are certainly worse ways to spend one's retirement.
