Description
Oaks Park - It's great fun all around!
The park includes a 100 by 200 feet wooden roller skating rink, open year-round. Since 1955 the rink has contained a working Wurlitzer model organ which was moved to the rink from its previous home at Portland's Broadway Theatre, where it had been installed in 1926. The park celebrated 100 years of continuous operation in 2005, making it among the oldest in the US.
About Oaks Park:
What would summer be without the screams of happy thrill seekers risking life and limb on a roller coaster? Covering more than 44 acres, this amusement park first opened in 1905 to coincide with the Lewis and Clark Exposition. Beneath the shady oaks for which the park is named, you'll find waterfront picnic sites, miniature golf, music, and plenty of thrilling rides. Here in the park, you'll also find one of the largest roller-skating rinks in the West, and an organist still plays a Wurlitzer pipe organ for the skaters.
