Description
One Hour Yoga Class by Shannon Basham
Body by body, day by day, yoga teacher Shannon Basham meets her students where they are— beginner or advanced, younger or older, flexible or not-so-flexible.
Shannon knows from her own 16 years of practice that yoga is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. With this in mind, she offers classes in chair yoga, gentle yoga, all levels of vinyasa flow and restorative yoga.
Private sessions are also available to help individuals or couples focus on specific needs or goals.
Shannon’s mission is to serve whoever is in front of her, whatever they need in that moment.
After serving active duty in the U.S. Army for five years, Shannon completed a degree in Liberal Arts at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She focused her studies on anatomy, physiology, fitness, nutrition and gerontology. She began her career as a personal trainer, though her own struggles with stress, depression and back pain led her to yoga. As Shannon’s pain and anxiety subsided, she began to add breath work, posture awareness and slow, deep stretching to her fitness training. In 2009, under the guidance of Prana Flow teacher Gina Caputo, Shannon began her own journey to become a yoga teacher—even though she has very tight hamstrings!
Shannon’s classes are playful yet educational, integrating the yoga practice with real-life challenges and experiences. Her knowledge of anatomy and physiology informs her teaching, and she guides students to explore the rhythm of breath while maintaining safe alignment. Shannon brings a love of service to her teaching, and enjoys watching the transformation that occurs with regular practice.
Shannon is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) with Yoga Alliance and is currently completing coursework towards her 500-hour registration in 2013. She holds certifications in restorative and chair yoga, as well. For the past three and half years, Shannon has taught yoga, meditation and fitness classes at Stowers Institute for Medical Research, Fairway Parks and Recreation and at the University of Kansas, Landon Center on Aging in addition to her private students.
