This wonderful little plaque is at least 40 years old, since I remember it hanging in my mother’s home for many years before she passed. I haven’t seen anything resembling this anywhere else, so I’m assuming it was handcrafted and not a mass production piece, probably dating from the early 70’s. It was cut from very high-grade plywood and stained, with careful carving to highlight fur and facial details (look at the muzzle and whisker freckles!).  It measure 10.5” x 6” high and is ¼” thick. It originally had a hanging bracket on back, which has disappeared, but can easily be replaced. The nice, flat ¼” thickness would also make it a great choice for as an applique for embellishing a box lid, scrapbook cover, etc.
