Love the beach? Like to surf or swim? Eat seafood? Look at seals frolicking? Then come learn more about the issues faced by the ocean in the form of Pacific Gyre and trash… and help do something about it!
Open to any 5th or 6th grade boys to have a delicious breakfast at the Reichman's house and learn about the gyre. Then go to Ocean Beach and meet with Park Rangers who will teach us more about how to preserve our beaches and wildlife. We will spend two hours protecting wildlife by cleaning up ocean beach.
Special Instructions
Count Me In is on Saturday, April 12th, 9:00 AM -1:00 PM. Open to 12 Cathedral 5th or 6th grade boys. Meet at 9:00 AM for breakfast at the Reichman’s followed by a talk about the Pacific Gyre by Mr. “Clean Ocean” Santosa and Mrs. “No Trash” Reichman.
At 10:30 AM, we'll go to Ocean Beach, 17th Stairwell (carpools or van will be organized. Fifth and sixth grade parents, it is fun to be on the beach, so let Emily know if you are willing to drive and join the fun).
From 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM we'll work with S.F. Park and Rec Department to learn more about our beaches and ocean – and help clean the beach! Every volunteer provided with gloves, buckets and a trash pincher for the morning. At 1:00 PM parents can pick up at Ocean Beach, stairwell 17.
What to bring: curiosity and dedication to helping marine life, layered clothing, hat, water bottle and sunscreen.
