Hakata dolls originate in Fukuoka prefecture in Japan. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to finish a piece depending on the size of the doll and how meticulous the designs are. This doll was designed and made by a famous Hakata Doll Artist, Nishigashira Tetsusaburo. The design captures a moment from a Japanese traditional play (“Noh Play”,) called Kakitsubata (Iris.) Therefore, there are irises designed on the fan that the doll holds.
Hakata Dolls started in 1600, over 400 years, Hakata Dolls enjoy popularity for their traditional beauty and elegance.
