Valerie Fanarjian started scribbling in the blank margins of her Bible when she was three.  She has been unable to resist a blank canvas ever since.  In the years before settling at Simon’s Rock, among other things, Valerie sold flowers in San Francisco, crunched numbers on 59th and park, worked the boardwalk in New Jersey, ran a sawmill, and made a couple of movies. In between, she spent many hours weaving together paper, paint, words, string, or sticks. The act of assembling is kind of miraculous in its simplicity, and is simultaneously temporal and ephemeral. Valerie Fanarjian is the Activities Director at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Great Barrington, MA.
