Description

Not all children who stay in the orphanages are parentless. Some are social orphans, whose parents are either unwilling or unable to care for them.  The children in this picture were so afraid to be separated from their parents that they clung to each other.

MARIA SADOYAN, Age 35, has spent much time photographing orphanages during her time as a communication specialist for World Vision Armenia. “Photography was always part of my job – and the best part of it,” she says. “I realized that what I am really interested in is documenting people’s lives and their conflict with reality.” She is currently working on a series of portraits of Armenian artists, as well as documenting the lives of families, particularly children, who were deprived of basic needs.
