Photo #44 - By Maria Sadoyan

Item Number: 618
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Not all children who stay in the orphanages are parentless. Some are social orphans, whose parents are either unwilling or unable to care for them. The parents shown in this photo had given their children up to the orphanage, but came back to get them after being persuaded that any home is better than an orphanage.
Special Instructions
MARIA SADOYAN, Age 35, has spent much time photographing orphanages during her time as a communication specialist for World Vision Armenia. “Photography was always part of my job – and the best part of it,” she says. “I realized that what I am really interested in is documenting people’s lives and their conflict with reality.” She is currently working on a series of portraits of Armenian artists, as well as documenting the lives of families, particularly children, who were deprived of basic needs.
