#31 Peasant Woman's Dress - (Euboea, Kymi) Greek Costume Collection by NICOLAS SPERLING. Lithograph on paper after original watercolor, circa 1930 (Russia, Alexandrovsk 1881- ca. 1940 / act: Athens) Nicolas Sperling was a miniaturist active in Egypt. Antony Benaki entrusted the execution of the Hellenic national costumes to Sperling, who was brought to Greece for the purpose. Sperling completed a great number of watercolor illustrations, of which 111 plates were printed. A special edition of 25 copies numbered A' to KE' were printed on handmade paper. The public edition of Hellenic National Costumes was limited to 300 copies, of which ACG holds No 292. Volume I contains Plates 1-55. Volume II contains plates 56-85. Further to the original 85 Plates, 26 Supplementary Plates were added.
