Description

Collect a 1997 Sidney Bechet Commemorative Postal Cachet.  Jelly Roll Morton discussed the importance of this clarinet player in the book, Mr. Jelly Roll by Alan Lomax.  This cachet features blue foil print, a clarinet cancellation and a pen and ink collage of Sydney Bechet.    Total production:  2500.

The U.S. Post Office issues specialized commemoratives for important cultural contributions that are uniquely American.  In 1989 the Post Office issued its first Jazz Fest cachet and has issued one every year since, each one featuring a New Orleans jazz artist.  The cachets are highly sought after, and the value as collectable and framed piece increases every year.  Cachets are preserved through a cardboard insert to keep them rigid, and a clear cover to keep out moisture.
