Special Instructions

Susan Knox is the owner of the Woodruff Riding School, in Jeffersonton Virginia.  She is an American Riding Instructions Association (ARIA) certified instructor and has over 40 years experience with horses and their people.   Committed to helping riders enjoy their riding experiences – and that Riding isn’t just for the Superstars!  Susan’s background is mostly Hunters, but after joining the Old Peoples Riding Club, had her first taste of Dressage and loved it!  Inspired by the Christmas Musicals that Danielle Geoffrion produced in the 90’s, she was determined to make that dream come true for herself, her OPRC buddies, and her students at the Riding School.  The Old Peoples and Old Ponies Christmas Quadrille has been produced and directed by Susan since Christmas 2009.  Quadrille or Musical Ride puts the joy back in riding.  Often riders are too tense, nit picking their horses to be “in a frame,” or posing stiffly on their mounts.  Music relaxes both horse and rider and is the time to just relax, enjoy the music, and ride!  Whether aspirations are to master complex drill team patterns, a UDSF Quadrille, or to just enjoy simple patterns like Serpentines and Circles, the partnership of horse and rider emerge as the music plays.  Susan would love to share her creativity, fun, and music with you.  Whether you need some ideas to put together a routine for your own team, or just want to experience the relaxation this type of riding can deliver, Musical Ride might be a very pleasant surprise.   Her Indoor Arena in Jeffersonton Virginia is equipped with fabulous footing, a great sound system, and Susan’s light hearted direction and choreography.
