Pencil Drawing 40 x 40 cm Diary, 15 Enero 2012

Frank Mujica Chavez was born in 1985 in Pinar del Rio, Cuba and currently works and lives in Havana. He studied at the Superior Institute of Arts and the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, and at NYU's documentary film program. His work has been exhibited throughout Cuba in the last 10 years. Mujica's work has been indirectly influenced by Cuban painters Domingo Ramos and Tomás Sánchez. International influences include the 17th century Dutch and Flemish landscape painters, the Barbizon and Hudson River schools, and artists such as Constable and Whistler. "Learning to observe, learning to recognize the cultural codes that determine our regard, learning to break away from them without denying them, in order to elaborate a landscape from an unusual perspective."
