Description

Nicole Eisenman (b. 1965, Verdun, France) earned her B.F.A. in 1987 from Rhode Island School of Design. Eisenman’s work has been the subject of exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Museum, CA; Studio Voltaire, London; The Tang Museum at Skidmore College; Kunsthalle Zürich, Switzerland; and Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City, among others. Her paintings and monotypes have been included in numerous group exhibitions including NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star, curated by Massimiliano Gioni, New Museum, New York; andWhitney Biennial (2012) at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Additionally, Eisenman’s work is the subject of a forthcoming traveling mid-career survey opening at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis in January 2014. She has been the recipient of a number of awards including the John Simon Guggenheim Grant (1996), the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant (1995), the Louis Tiffany Grant (1995) and the Penny McCall Foundation Grant (1995). Her work resides in prominent public collections internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Eisenman lives and works in Brooklyn.
