Description

Unique art by Los Angeles artist David Jien.  Intaglio etching print, 1/10.

Based in Los Angeles, CA, David Jien received his BFA from Art Center College of Design in 2009.  As a first generation Taiwanese-American, a veteran tagger who spent time in jail, and a recent art school graduate, Jien utilizes the unique facts and experiences of his life as raw material for the fantastic stories and characters that are represented in his work.   "I make most of my work in my dojo, unless I can't be in my dogo, I travel quite a bit; it's not uncommon to find me working at some random dojo." - David Jien (excerpt from Walk The Line: The Art of Drawing)

Inspired by such disparate sources as Nintendo, Persian miniatures, Chinese scrolls, Homer, Chaucer, Stanley Kubrick, Roald Dahl, Henry Darger and Trenton Doyle Hancock, Jien’s art brings far-flung elements into a form-savvy epic that is familiar and formidable and a thrill to get lost in. / David Pagel
