Judy Wicks, founder of Business Alliance for Local Living Economies and Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, started the café in 1983, building it into a nationally-recognized sustainably responsible organization.

Recently the White Dog Café opened a new location in Wayne, Pa., which maintains the ever-changing seasonal menu, like the University City location. Both locations offer ingredient history on their websites, which can be traced back to local farms, such as Blue Moon Acres in Buckingham, Pa. Even beers are locally-sourced, coming from breweries such as Yard’s and Stoudt’s. Despite the restaurants’ focus on sustainability, the food is not forgotten, and every morsel of locally-sourced meals is thoroughly delicious.
