Description

Star-Spangled Continent is presented as if we are looking out from the center of the Earth.  This vision of North America turns the familiar inside-out and helps us see new relationships in the topography, represented by the changing scales of a tessellated star pattern.  Here mountain ranges, great plains, and coastal lowlands are re-unified, stripped free of the arbitrary boundaries of nation states.

Trained as an architect, Raylene Gorum uses the visual language of mathematics to create wearable art and artwork that walks the line between print, installation and fashion.  Uninhibited by scale or material, her canvases include men's ties and lady's jewelry as well as city sized pieces such as an installation covering 165' of window across the street from MoMA."  raylenegorum.com
