David Campbell was born in 1936, in Takoma Park, MD. He studied at Art Student League in New York City, 1957-1961. To place David Campbell in the grand tradition of American Realism tells only part of his story. His pictures work equally well as abstract art. They evince a concern with basic form that marks the greatest non-representational work. More importantly still, they introduce us, as any original vision must, to a distinctive way of experiencing our surroundings.
His solo exhibitions include from amongst a huge listing: Galleria III, Florence, Italy; Galleria Vaccarino Florence, Carrara, Ferrara Italy; Davids & Long, NYC; Babson College, Wellesley, MA; Thomas Segal Gallery, Boston, MA.
His work is represented in numerous private and public collections which includes: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; Art Institure of Chicago; Boston Public Library; Cabor Corboration, Boston; Chemical Bank, NYC; Eastern Gas, Boston; Gillette Corporation, Boston; Lee Kennedy Co, Dorchester, MA; Richard Brown Baker, NYC; Glenn C. Janss, Sun Valley, ID; Frank H. Goodyear, Jr., Philadelphia; Robert Doran, Boston; Lee & Kate Auspitz, Somerville, MA; Richard Marcus, Boston; Pierce Atwood, Portland; and Colleen & Gregory Graves, Cape Elizabeth.
