About Leonetti: For more than 30 years, the Figgins Family has been producing wines of consistently high quality at Leonetti Cellar, which was bonded in 1977 by Founders Gary and Nancy Figgins. What started as Gary’s vision to make world-class wines in Walla Walla has turned out to be a true American success story. Today, Leonetti Cellar produces some of the most sought after wines in the world.
2004: The aromatically floral 2004 Merlot holds its own in a qualitative comparison to all Leonetti Merlots. Its nose of roses, wild berries, and cherries leads to a medium to full-bodied, pure core of spicy black cherries. An elegant yet full-flavored wine, it is a candidate for drinking over the next 8-9 years. SCORE: 94 Points Robert Parker
2005: The 2005 Merlot contains 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot. It spent 14 months in French and American oak and was bottled unfiltered. Purple-colored, it has a splendid bouquet of pain grille, spice box, cassis, and black currants. This is followed by a plush wine with layered flavors, superb balance, and terrific length.
SCORE: 94 Points Robert Parker
2006: The 2006 Merlot has 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Carmenere, and 4% Petit Verdot in the blend. It was aged in a mix of new and used barrels for 15 months. It is dark ruby/purple-colored with aromas of cedar, earth notes, clove, cinnamon, red currants, and black currants. This leads to an elegant wine with ripe, savory flavors, good depth, and a lengthy, pure finish. It will evolve for 3-4 years and be at its best from 2012 to 2020.
SCORE: 91 Points Robert Parker
