Landscape Consultation:

During my 1 hour on-site landscape consultation I will perform a site analysis. Here I’ll identify problem areas, site limitations and advantages. Are good views being showcased? Is privacy an issue? Are nearby overhead power lines visible? Is the size adequate for its intended use? Is the site flat? Are there grade changes? What is the sun exposure like?

I will assess the existing landscape and hardscape layout, as well as the plant selection and placement, and diagnose problem areas. Is the space too “hard”? Do the paved areas satisfy both form and function? What is the existing feel of the space? Is the plant material appropriate in terms of form, scale and sun/shade tolerance? Is there an established planting “theme”? Is the irrigation coverage appropriate? Is the site being under or over-irrigated? Is water conservation a goal?

Lastly, I will provide site-specific landscape maintenance recommendations. Often the appearance of an existing landscape, both old and new, can quickly improve following a horticultural maintenance schedule. Have the trees been trimmed within 2 years? Has bamboo been thinned out? Have ornamental grasses been cut back? Have seasonal color beds been planted with fresh annuals? Have planter & turf areas been fertilized quarterly? Have they been mulched? Is weed control an issue?

If the homeowner’s specific objectives include incorporating new landscape elements such as patios, overhead structures, outdoor cooking & dining areas, fire pits and swimming pools, I can provide conceptual design ideas as well as recommendations on positioning, dimensions and material finishes of such elements within the site. No blueprints are included in this consultation package; however, if the project merits it, I am able to provide construction documents for an added fee.

Following the site visit I will provide in writing my observations and recommendations, as well as a 13" x 19"concept board with photographs of design ideas, whether it’s a general landscape feel, or specific landscape elements.
