It's the perfect recipe for a husband's punishing decree: Go on with business as usual, he says to his spouse, but take the suit everywhere as a constant reminder of your betrayal. Featuring an innovative staging that integrates musicians directly into the action, Peter Brooks tender production makes Can Themba's tightly crafted, unsettling fable sing. African melodies and Schubert lieder thicken the air of this apartheid-era summer in which a shared wound is not allowed to heal.
