Description
Each Intensive will meet for 3 hours a day for 5 days (morning and afternoon sessions) allowing the class the opportunity to explore the many fascinating aspects of one particular topic. This year's Intensives are: Egyptian Mythology (mornings) and iPod Theater (afternoons). Morning Intensive 9:00-11:45am - EGYPTIAN MYTHOLOGY: Students will be exposed to colorful world of Egyptian Mythology with gods and goddesses, mortals, and creatures along the Nile and will then recreate the stories by developing characters, settings and improvising dialogue. Students will also get their hands dirty as they make masks, armor, symbols, and other accessories for the myths! Afternoon Intensive 12:15-3:00pm - IPOD THEATER: We have one week as a group to develop a story, make sound effects, create characters, and incorporate students' individual talents (does someone play piano? is someone good with accents? can someone write a jingle? etc) into an exciting audio recording! This Intensive focuses on updating the traditional radio play to create something new and modern – iPod Theater! Students will develop a mini-show, create the sound effects (i.e. using two shoes walking on plywood for entrances, tapping metal to create thunder, crinkling plastic bags for fire…the sky's the limit!). They will then select characters and add other theatrical elements using their own talents. This process helps encourage individual AND group work, learning how to use one's own creative talents, while collaborating with a group to create a project. By the end of the week, the students will record their iPod play and take the recording home for their friends and family to enjoy! (Personal iPod NOT required in order to participate.)
