The chess pieces were hand-poured with artist-grade gypsum plaster, hand-painted and sealed with a gloss crystal resin and seated on heavy-duty felt.  You will enjoy hours of fun playing with these large and solid pieces. The unique faces and poses of the chessmen will be a sure conversation starter in your home. The two kings are the largest pieces and stand about 3" tall.

Interesting fact: Considered to be the most celebrated chess find of all time, the original Lewis Chessmen were found in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. The pieces date back to the mid-12th Century, which makes them some of the earliest examples of chessmen in Europe!
