Southern California is the sole metropolitan region that boasts having two Presidential Libraries. After being built by supporters of each president, these institutions are run by the National Archives. The Libraries provide a rich cultural resource and an opportunity for citizens and scholars alike to enhance their knowledge of the Presidency and the American political system.
The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum (Yorba Linda)
A docent will lead you on a private 3-hour tour for two of the Library and Museum of the nation’s 37th President, along with a commemorative gift basket. Such tours are typically only provided to State and Federal officials and Nixon family and friends. View vintage campaign films, news footage, and historically significant television appearances by President Nixon. Visit the galleries, which include replicas of the East Room of the White House and the Lincoln Sitting Room. Explore the space program during the Nixon presidency, featuring the telephone Nixon used to call Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon. Step aboard the extensively restored Army One – a 6-ton Sikorsky VH 3A “Sea King” helicopter used by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford.
Nixon’s childhood home, built by his father on this 9-acre citrus ranch in Orange County and designated as a historic site, is just a few steps from the final resting place for both President and Mrs. Nixon.
Chauffeured Transportation in Nixon’s Limousine
Your party of two will be picked up at your hotel in Nixon’s private Chrysler Limousine, taken to the Nixon Library, then to El Adobe Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano, before being returned to your hotel. This limo was recently restored and contains the original leather upholstery and interior it had when the President and Mrs. Nixon used it. This was the last car Nixon owned, and he and Mrs. Nixon spent many Sunday afternoons driving near their home in New Jersey as well as their favorite drives through upstate New York. You will receive up to eight consecutive hours of chauffeured transportation on the day of your Nixon Library and Museum Tour.
El Adobe Restaurant (San Juan Capistrano)
Enjoy a $75 gift certificate towards lunch or dinner at El Adobe, where you will be seated in the same chairs and table where former President Nixon and the First Lady used to dine. While he was in office, Nixon purchased a home in nearby San Clemente that became known as the Western White House. While living there, he enjoyed the Mexican dishes prepared exclusively for him by El Adobe’s chef. Situated within two blocks of the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, the restaurant site has been recognized as a California State Historical Landmark.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library (Simi Valley)
Located on 100 acres in Simi Valley between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The United States of America flag that flies over the museum in your honor on the day of your tour will be presented to you in a commemorative case that includes the date it was flown and your name.
Your private 3-hour tour for two includes the newly renovated museum where you can explore over 26,000 sq. ft. of interactive exhibits and displays, including a 6338 lb. piece of the Berlin Wall. Enter the full-size replica of the Oval Office, the room where Reagan never took off his suit jacket. In the Air Force One Pavilion, step aboard the same aircraft that flew President Reagan over 660,000 miles to 26 foreign countries. On loan from the U.S. Air Force, this “Flying White House”, served seven U.S. Presidents from 1973 to 2001. The outdoor grounds are home to the Memorial Site, the final resting place for the nation’s 40th president. Transportation not included. Approximately 1.5 hours from hotel.
