Description

David and Nancy Soules will donate one extended weekend (up to four days) or a full midweek (Monday through Friday) at their three-bedroom cabin located in Dark Canyon, approximately 10 miles south of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. The cabin is in a remote area adjoining the Lincoln National Forest (with lots of wildlife nearby). Miles of roadless hiking trails are right outside the door. The cabin has hot and cold running water fed by a spring, but the only electricity is from a very small solar system that will only run a few lights at night. Heat is provided by a fireplace augmented by small portable propane heaters. The cabin is truly "off the grid," and is used as both a hunting cabin and vacation getaway.  It is located at the end of a seldom maintained dirt road (a moderately high clearance vehicle is recommended) about two miles up Dark Canyon off of NM Highway 130. There are a couple of "nearby" cabins, but none are occupied year round and the lots are about 10 acres in size, so you really can't see any other structures from the cabin. The vegetation is mostly mature ponderosa pine, with a few aspen and spruce nearby.
